Name tag design class 6.22, or better known as – How to design a NON BORING Name Tag.
Yes we have experienced a huge signup for our name tag design class (and yes I am kidding). But that doesn’t mean you do not need to know why we design the way we do. Soooooooo here goes.
Type styles are great, so many to choose from, so little time. When we design a name tag we want the name tag design to flow and look like all the elements work together. That is why we choose the typefaces we choose to design your name tag. Type styles do not need to clash with logos, they need to work together to create a pleasing design.
To keep this very simple we will only talk about Serif and San Serif type styles. To make it even simpler the Serif styles feature the little marks on the ends of the letters that give them character. San Serif do not have these extra marks (this blog is written in sanserif. Some examples of each are Serif

and the San Serif styles;
We want to make sure that the type style used in the logo or organization name matches the one we use for the name on the badge. By matching the typestyles the badge exhibits a flowing more professional look – take a look at these and you will see what I mean.
There are a few other ways we enhance the typefaces when we are designing the tags.
BOLD – In some cases we will bold a name to make it stand out.
Small Caps – this is a nice effect and produces a more unique design. I personally like it but that is just my taste
Italic – this is a nice effect however I personally do not like it for all type styles. We use the italic for titles and organization names quite often.
So you see, some thought actually goes into the choice of type style we use for your badges. If you have specific font request we always try to accommodate them. Some clients even email us the fonts they want to use on their badges.
You see we are pretty easy to get along with. If you have a special typeface request just tell us and we will be glad to accommodate you. So remember the next time you need name tags trust the name tag professionals at nametagpros.com
